IYBC Wise Words #9: Joseph & Psalm 90

  • April 5, 2009
I had the wonderful opportunity to be one of the first people dropped off last night, and so I took advantage of the situation. Since the room(s) were already immaculate, and doing homework on a Friday night is unheard of, I popped open Mail and began browsing through to find the reading that was emailed to me Friday morning. Boy am I glad I did, because as usual, it hit dead on:

So teach us to count our days,
that we may gain a wise heart.
Psalm 90:12

The reading spoke of immense change in the life of Joseph, and how God guided him through it, eventually landing him the dope job as Prime Minister of Ancient Egypt. The way I look at it, Life is always changing, every single day. All we as individuals can do is embrace the change and live in the present moment, loving it, and reaping every last benefit from said moment. It’s no surprise adults always speak of change being inevitable, because it really is a part of every day.

The passage went on to explain: “Joseph endured a number of profound changes. Even when these led him into desperate situations – first as a slave, then as a prisoner – he believed that God was at work. Joseph’s attitude allowed him to concentrate on what he could do rather than complain about the changes he faced. Consequently, he was able to thrive in the midst of adversity.”

I’m praying that God helps me to discover opportunities in each new stage of life and to live each day rejoicing in His presence.

Focus on what you have and
not on what you have lost.
