I Miss My

  • July 25, 2008
Best Friend.

When he originally told me he was joining the Canadian Armed Forces, I laughed. When he phoned me two days later saying he had a contract mailed to him, I chuckled. And then, when he told me he was leaving for Montreal in two weeks, I cried. Sitting right there in the Moxies Lounge, I bawled. That was a year and a half ago.

Since then, he’s been in and out of my life, as his contract allows him. I’ve really seen the intensity of our friendship, as we spill each and every detail of our lives to each other as if the last several months of no contact don’t matter at all. And I guess in our case, they don’t.

Since June, he’s been in Nunavut, at a posting up there. He calls me almost every day, but we never really get a chance to talk about very much other than small talk. I mean how am I supposed to tell him, over the phone, and on long distance minutes, about anything going on at the Office, about UNICEF, about the CDIC, about my car, my debts, my parents, my “friends”, or everything else that defines my life to be a giant mess?

Anyway, I’m pretty sure he’s back in town THIS WEEKEND, if not early next week. I can’t wait to chill with him, to go eat at random places, go shopping, go out, and everything else we always do. I just really need a real friend in my life right now.
