Although its never pleasurable to be “sick”; runny nose, sinus headache, trouble sleeping, indigestion, sore throat, and a general feeling of nausea – my recent stint on antibiotics ended up being a very insightful event. For one, while everyone by this point expects me to be self-sufficient and fully take care of myself, being sick the last few days has meant I am always being asked if I want something to eat/drink/do/not do, and I must admit that it is very nice to feel so taken care. At the very least, its a welcome change. It truly was a strange vacation of sorts; I worked from home for the three days I was sick but then got to spend time at my family’s home. My mom made me fresh juice every morning, my siblings checked in with me before they left and when they came home from school or work, the dinner menu was catered around my needs and favorite tastes. I truly felt very special and loved. And that is where I realized how little we are without our families, how much they care for us, how insecure and afraid we would be without them.
