UM WHY AM I HOLDING A BALENCIAGA PURSE ON MY CAKE?
An event that was discussed and agreed upon back in December of 2008, Gwen’s 21st Surprise Party was perfectly executed by yours truly (with the help of my best friend/her boyfriend) at the now-popular Sushi joint in Calgary’s downtown, Sukiyaki House. Twenty-five of her closest friends and family were invited to yell “Surprise!” as she walked through the door.
The four-course set-menu was a wicked choice, as the food was delicious, and served in juuust the right portions. Baby Jay especially loved it, as he rocked his Stella McCartney for Baby Gap blazer.
I love taking photos of Sushi, its so colorful, proportionate and looks so delicious, no? And what comes with a high-end Sushi restaurant? Some equally high-end Saki!
And although the entire event, from beginning to end, was pretty fun to execute, I especially enjoyed the gift + cake combination. In case you’re wondering, Gwen is rocking a pair of Wayfarers, a vintage denim cropped jacket, a Bandoe dress from American Apparel, and a pair of Bakers thigh-high boots:

Genesis, your 20th year of life had both its shares of ups and downs, and I’m glad you’ve held unto those you needed to, and let go where it was required. I’m so proud to be part of this huge milestone in your life, and as promised, for the girl who never celebrates her birthdays, I would step in and change that forever.
