Hi there, my name is Jeremiah, and I am addicted to birthday celebrations. I have been documenting and sharing my addiction here on this piece of the internet for literally ten years. And so it should come as no surprise that for my wife's birthdays every year, I do literally everything I can to surprise and delight her. It's my excuse to shower her with gifts and to bring a smile to her face. For anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting my wife, you'll know that her compassion and generosity usually outshine her perfectly styled outfits. So can you imagine how she takes care of me? She treats me like a king every hour of my life, so I seriously use birthdays and anniversaries and Christmas as my time to make her feel as special as she makes me feel. So when I had a chance to create magic with the Fairmont Royal York, I jumped on it!
One of our favourite hotels in the city - the Fairmont Royal York - invited us to spend her birthday weekend with them, in honour of their own birthday (how cool that they share a birthday?!), my senses were tingling to create something spectacular for my wife. And with the help of the concierge, the booking team, housekeeping, and probably so many others, I was able to truly create magical birthday moments. And today, I am sharing some of the ways in which I was able to do that, and how you can, too.
GIFT PRE-DELIVERY
To kick things off on the celebratory note, I had delivered a few pre-wrapped gifts and birthday cards with the bell desk prior to our arrival. They were able to make sure that when we checked into our suite, the gifts were displayed prominently, and Monika was so shocked and delighted! Although we always have a faux agreement to not 'do gifts', I always love to watch her unwrap some little goodies every year. And this way, I didn't have to worry about hiding them in my bags, and keeping her eyes away. By pre-delivering them, it was hassle free for me, and the perfect backdrop to kick off a birthday weekend.
CUSTOM FLORALS
With the help of the lovely team at the Fairmont Gold, I was able to get in touch with a highly recommended florist - Peter Demarco of Demarco-Perpich Design Inc - that the Fairmont Royal York team worked with before. He prepared the most lush and bright bouquet with all of Monika's favourite flowers, and again, was able to coordinate with the team to have it delivered to our suite before our arrival. Another absolutely lovely touch that allowed me to add to the surprise, with almost no hassle from me. These little touches really meant so much to her, and it was amazing because it was so easy for me.
IN-SUITE AFTERNOON TEA
One of the iconic traditions of the Fairmont Royal York is afternoon tea served in the Library Bar. And you know that we love drawn out, champagne clinking, tiny pastries daytime affairs. But in our case, as the tea wasn't being offered when I wanted it (right in the middle of the day on Monika's birthday), I transformed the suite to be our own afternoon tea. With a few items from in-room dining, a splendid cake which was also arranged in advance and delivered, and with the aforementioned florals, we had our own custom afternoon tea. The dope thing about the Fairmont Gold suites at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel is that they are appointed as luxury residences rather then business rooms, so instead of a desk, there is a communal dining table, which was the perfect spot for Monika's birthday cake and champagne!
These little touches made a huge difference in the birthday weekend that I had planned, and none of it would have been possible without the help of the Fairmont Royal York. The newly opened Fairmont Gold (hotel within a hotel) is stunning enough on its own, but the added touches and customization to our stay is really what elevated our experience. And this is how moments turn into memories.
