Fluid Identity

  • June 25, 2012

I am a staunch symbolic interactionist, an avid learner of new things, a people-person, an aspiring Communications Specialist and a dedicated fashion follower.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
A: I’m just a regular twenty-something guy, living my dream in Calgary, Canada. Everyone I meet seems to think I should/already work in fashion, but I am actually on my way to finishing my Bachelor of Communication & Culture with a Minor in Sociology from the University of Calgary.

Q: Do you have any other passions?
A: While I do truly enjoy fashion – hence the basis of this blog – my other passions include photography, traveling, eating and creating memories for other people by way of planning events.

Q: What does your social network look like?
A: My family means the world to me; my parents are my greatest inspiration. I am blessed to be with a wonderful woman – she’s beautiful, intelligent, wise beyond words, and fashionable (of course). My little brother and sister are my best friends. I don’t have a very large or coherent conventional circle of friends, but I do have many acquaintances. Those individuals who I call my close friends are very special to me – they have stood the test of time and have been in my life for years upon years. And they know exactly who they are.

Q: What is this blog about?
A: This blog originally began as a way for me to document my life, then it evolved to a “fashion/style blog”, it took me to London Fashion Week, it landed me a fashion internship in Holland, and it also cemented a lot of relationships in my life. What is it now? For categorical purposes, we’ll call it a Calgary Fashion Blog. But in reality, it has evolved into a complex pseudo-identity.

Q: What or who exactly is the Endoxist?
A: The concept occurred to me during one my lectures this past Spring session. Living and actively participating in a world rife with social meanings, accepted norms and ideals, I realized that I purposefully perpetuate a new ideal for what it means to be a young man in Canadian society, and thus was the birth of the Endoxist. Click here for a more detailed account of the death of IYBC (my old blog) and here for an explanation of my transition to the Endoxist.

———————————————

Just a couple months ago, I posted this under the “About” section of my blog, and already now, I feel like this irrelevant information – maybe not irrelevant per se, but definitely not how I would describe myself to the internet, nor the photo I would use. The beauty of this blog is that I mostly just do this for myself. I’ve used this platform as my online time capsule – a photo diary of sorts. I know that it will always exist, just not if it will always be a public webpage; I don’t know if I want my future children Google-ing me and stumbling upon this. Or perhaps I would? Regardless, I will be updating my personal biography, but I don’t want to lose what’s written above – its a priceless snapshot of my self perception at that moment in time: feverishly finishing University classes, working part-time in the fashion industry and dreaming big dreams.
