Last year, while ringing in #2014 on a sandy beach in Mexico, I vowed to you all (and myself) that I would never spend another countdown in cold (and boring) Calgary, and I held true to my promise. This year, my fiancée and I donned ornate masks, grabbed mini champagne bottles and waited patiently with thousands of other celebrants for the spectacular fireworks display in the city of canals, Venice. The famous San Marco Piazza hosted people from all over the world, and what a site it was! At the stroke of midnight, literally a dozen different languages greeted their respective loved ones; couples kissed passionately; the fireworks blared over-head – true magic.
