From an LA couple who envisioned it back in 2002, to a huge super premium denim brand, True Religion Jeans have come a long way. I got my first pair back in 2004, and I remember rocking those Joeys to school, and somebody was like “Nice jeans, they look expensive”, and I was hooked! At my Product Knowledge meeting today, I discovered a lot I didn’t know about the brand, including the fact that it’s estimated to be worth $497 000 000 by the end of 2009. Now that’s a lot of zeros. Also, it’s physically impossible for anyone to replicate the “thick white stitching” seen in the Big or Super Ts, as TR specifically manufactured a sewing machine that could handle it. While seamstresses can come close to producing carbon copies for hem jobs, the original hem is always recommended as to preserve the signature stitch.
And why the high price point? Contrary to what most assume, True Religion denim isn’t American, but bought from high end Japanese denim retailers. So it’s literally the best quality out there, balanced with skilled denim craftsmanship. And something exciting to look forward to in the near future, TR Limited Edition Vintage Denim. Each pair of jeans will have literally been worked on for 300 hours, and only 1000 pieces will be created for this limited edition style staple. Look for these to be around $575 a pop!
And for attending, we each got a very fly TR “Back Pocket” phone charm (pictured left). Okay, so maybe not that dope, but thoughtful nonetheless.
I still stand by the claim that TRs are the comfiest denim I own, par to only PRPS and maybe Nudies. Pictured below, my modest collection sans two pairs that are on loan to Rye.
