Nigel Cabourn, another exciting showcase we were excited to receive an invitation for. The presentation happened in its flagship store, and everyone knew exactly that some London Collections Men event must be happening in the area, which was filled with a fashionable crowd. In front of the location had formed a gathering of people just waiting to be let in. Finally the designer himself opens the door and after being checked whether your name is on “the list” the event starts. Between beautifully merchandised clothing are the models presenting the new collection “Desert Rats”. The well-established London designer is “not influenced by ‘fashion’ trends but driven by inspirational stories of real people in history and vintage military, outdoor and workwear pieces” – and this shows in his collection. The military inspiration carries throughout the collection, and of course the military trend is always kind of “in”. Pieces that I noticed right away are the cuffed pants and “Birkenstock” looking sandals – both very trendy right now but also classic and timeless pieces.
Cabourn just mixed into the crowd, chatted with the guests and truly enjoyed showcasing his work. He previously collaborated with Converse and Fred Perry, so to see him in action was pretty amazing.
