Although we've already had the privilege of experiencing Fairmont Gold in Calgary almost three years ago, and again last year for my birthday, we had no idea what we were in for when we checked into the new 18th floor suites at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.
The thoughtful and design-focused suites harmoniously marry classic wainscotting and cooler tones with stunning carrera marble vanities and tasteful gold accenting. The showers feature a North American exclusive for scent infused bathing experiences, and the signature Fairmont beds are comfier than ever.
When we first heard that Fairmont Gold was coming to one of favourite downtown Toronto hotels, we were excited already because we knew the higher level of luxury and service it equates to.
What we didn't expect was how high the standard would be set - the renovations that took place at the hotel to shell out this boutique hotel experience are unexplainable and truly must be experienced in person. From the separate luxury check-in at the lounge to the spaciously appointed all-suite selection, this is next level.
The luxury residence feel was purposeful, and that's why no desks are found in the suites. Instead, communal tables with two chairs are found in the living room, with a separate section for the bedroom and the stunning bathrooms. Apart from the design details, the general layout, which includes a lobby entrance and a kitchen/wet bar, instantly make you feel both grandeur and cosiness.
Of course, the iconic Library Bar is still an amazing dining option, and now, the hotel has welcomed both Clockwork and Reign into the mix. It's safe to say dining has never been this glamorous at the Fairmont Royal York.
In terms of dining options, the Fairmont Gold Lounge on the 18th floor features the most decadent Chef prepared breakfasts (included for Fairmont Gold guests, of course). Apart from breakfast, there is typically sweets and appetizers there. It really feels like looking through your kitchen for a snack - a very luxury glam snack.
And no hotel is complete without its people. All of the staff at the Fairmont Gold level of the Fairmont Royal York were absolutely hospitable and gracious. The nightly turn down service was extra thoughtful. The reception staff were extra courteous. Truly, this hotel-within-a-hotel has nailed it when it comes to a boutique feeling.
